Those with the disease don’t even know it in many cases. Every day stress is common in the modern world. The road blocks in life have become more severe. Hand to mouth survival is common. The competition to keep a job has been enhanced by the crisis in our economy. Stress can be one of the main causes of depression.
There are many different types of depression. Many of the labels are similar in meaning. There is mental depression, medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression. There is also severe depression that alludes to the final stages of the disease. Many things cause depression. One school of thought holds that it’s due to chemical imbalances, simple biology. Depression is also passed along in the genes. If your grandfather and father suffered bouts with depression than you may be at risk to suffer it as well.
Common factors can lead to different types of depression. Substance abuse can lead to depression. Both alcoholics and drug abusers can contract depression. The death of a family member can increase the chance for depression. History hasn’t been kind to mental depression. Prior to mental illness being recognized as a disease it was considered by many to be a personal defect. The end result was treatment that was not appropriate or effective. Every stage of depression has its ill affects. Early detection, then, is necessary to fight depression.
When depression becomes severe depression then medical care is a must. Suicide often takes place in this final phase. The calls for help have gone unnoticed and the avenues for hope are slipping away. Treatment is typically ‘talk therapy’ and anti-depressants. Support groups can also help. Natural herbs have also been found to work. There are options available to those who suffer from all types of depression. If lingering signs of depression exist then please seek help. Actual cures for depression could include a mixture of antidepressants, psychiatric therapy, health food and alternative holistic treatments, such as acupuncture.
